Our Story
About us
Established in 2011, the Conservatory was the first "living bar" to be built in the world - the bar is a living wall of plants. Situated in Auckland city centre and directly on the waterfront, we are incredibly proud to be an individually owned and operated, free trade bar and restaurant, with the same owners from day one.

Our Choice
Drink
Our ever evolving drinks list is testament to what a free trade venue can offer. Unlike the vast majority of venues in New Zealand, who all have to stock the same products because of their agreements with big breweries, our drinks list is 100% based on quality and is chosen by our passionate team.

Great experience here. The gin fizz drinks we had were absolutely delicious, as was the large pizza we shared. The food arrived fast even though the place was busy! And all of the staff were friendly and polite. Amazing view right by the water as well. Definitely coming back!

Enjoyed lunch at this restaurant with my partner on a stunning summer's Sunday. Greeted with a smile, selected own table. Excellent waited service, pleasant music and excellent meals! The ambience and view was most relaxing and enjoyable. Highly recommended...

Great spot in the sunshine. Food was very good and right portions for a well fed but not nap time feeling. Service was also good. Especially recommend the mussels. Bonus they had my favourite gin as a tasting platter!

Wonderful experience. Got the Ferry in from Half Moon Bay with my family for a New Year's lunch. Great ambience, well-balanced menu but what makes it are the staff...attentive without being in your face, and unusually these days, great sense of humour! We had young kids, and although no kids menu, pizzas were great and able to adapt for them. Thoroughly recommend it. Matt

Went down On a Thursday afternoon they were pretty full. The staff accommodated my self and three friends in the sun. To good tunes and GREAT GIN & TONICS. We went for drinks and ended having Calamari, Mussels and pizza and a burger. Very surprised at how good everything was! The shiraz G&Ts is a must and the Burger is delicious and probably the biggest in auckland!
